Waterproofing

What this job involves, and what moves the price.

The shingles are not the waterproof layer. They are the wearing surface, and they shed most of the water most of the time. Underneath them is the underlayment, and that is the layer that keeps water out of the house on the day the surface is compromised, which is every day there is wind-driven rain and every day between a hailstorm and a repair.

Where it earns its money is at the concentrations. Valleys carry the water off two roof planes into one channel and take several times the flow of open field. Eaves take everything the whole slope has collected. Penetrations interrupt the flow and create a place for it to pool. A self-adhering ice-and-water membrane at those three locations is a small share of the material cost of a roof and it is the difference between a compromised roof leaking and a compromised roof waiting.

Included Synthetic or felt underlayment specified per job · Self-adhering membrane at valleys, eaves and penetrations · Pipe boots, collars and mast flashing renewed · Valley detail rebuilt where water concentrates · Sealing at solar mounts, satellite mounts and abandoned penetrations

How It Works

01

Call or send the form

Say what you are seeing: a stain, a storm, missing shingles, or a roof you just want an opinion on.

02

Someone gets on the roof

And into the attic, because the underside of the decking tells you things the surface will not. The inspection is free.

03

Photographs and a scope

You cannot see your own roof, so you get pictures of what was found and a written scope before any number is agreed.

04

The work, then the sweep

A tear-off scatters nails across a property. The last job of the day is running a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds.

Before You Call

Waterproofing, answered.

Is felt underlayment good enough?

Traditional 15 or 30 pound felt works and is still widely used. Synthetic underlayments tear less, do not wrinkle when they get wet, and stay usable if the roof is left open longer. The bigger decision is whether valleys and eaves get a self-adhering membrane, whatever covers the rest.

Do I need ice-and-water shield in Dallas?

Not for ice. For wind-driven rain at the valleys, eaves and around penetrations, yes: those are where water concentrates and where it gets pushed uphill, and the membrane is a modest cost on a full roof.

How long can a roof sit with only underlayment on it?

Felt is measured in days and degrades quickly in sun and wind. Most synthetics are rated for months of exposure. It matters when weather interrupts a job.

Can waterproofing be added without replacing the roof?

Not the underlayment, which is under everything. Penetration flashing, valley detail and specific problem areas can all be reworked on an existing roof.

Why Homeowners Pick Us

The surface is what you see. The layer underneath is what works once the surface stops.

Underlayment, valley metal, drip edge and the membrane at every penetration are the second line of defence. All of it is only installable while the roof is open.

The Difference

The part that decides whether it lasts.

The Texas version of the argument is not ice dams, it is wind. Water driven uphill under a shingle course does not care that it never freezes here, and the same membrane stops it.

Penetration sealing is the detail-level version. Every pipe, vent, mast and mount through a roof is a hole with something in it, and the boot, collar or flashing around each one has a service life shorter than the roof.

Let's Work Together

Find out what the roof actually needs.

Someone gets on the roof and into the attic, photographs what is there, and tells you what it needs. That costs nothing, including when the answer is nothing yet.
