Shingle

What this job involves, and what moves the price.

Nearly every roof in Dallas is composition shingle, and nearly every roof in Dallas is installed by a different crew to a different standard. The material is largely commodity. What varies is nailing, and nailing is the thing you can never see afterwards.

Shingles are nailed through a narrow strip near the top of the exposed portion. A nail an inch high misses the shingle below and holds one layer instead of two. A nail driven at an angle or overdriven so it cuts the mat holds almost nothing. Both pass a visual inspection perfectly, and both show up years later as courses lifting in wind. It is why the same shingle on the same street can last twelve years on one house and twenty-two on another.

Included Shingle replacement and repair, matched as closely as the age allows · Granule loss assessed against the age of the roof · Ridge cap and hip repair · Seal strip and wind lift correction · Class 4 impact-resistant options priced alongside standard

How It Works

01

Call or send the form

Say what you are seeing: a stain, a storm, missing shingles, or a roof you just want an opinion on.

02

Someone gets on the roof

And into the attic, because the underside of the decking tells you things the surface will not. The inspection is free.

03

Photographs and a scope

You cannot see your own roof, so you get pictures of what was found and a written scope before any number is agreed.

04

The work, then the sweep

A tear-off scatters nails across a property. The last job of the day is running a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds.

Before You Call

Shingle, answered.

How long does a composition shingle roof last in Dallas?

The material is usually sold as 25 or 30 year. In North Texas heat and hail, 15 to 20 is a more realistic expectation, and installation quality and attic ventilation move it several years in either direction.

What is a Class 4 impact-resistant shingle?

A shingle that survives a steel-ball impact test without cracking the mat. It does not make a roof hail-proof; it raises the size of hail needed to damage it. Most Texas carriers offer a premium discount for one, which is worth pricing before you decide.

Are granules in my gutters a problem?

A handful after a new roof is normal manufacturing loss. Steady accumulation from an older roof, or bare patches visible on the shingle, means the asphalt is exposed and the roof is in its last stretch.

Can I replace just a few damaged shingles?

Often yes. The limits are color match on older roofs and whether the surrounding shingles are brittle enough to crack when they are lifted to reach the nails. Cold weather makes that worse.

Why Homeowners Pick Us

Nobody ever sees the part of a shingle roof that decides how long it lasts.

Nail placement, nail depth, the courses under a valley and the starter row at the eave are all covered by the next row within a minute of going down. They are also the first things to fail in a Texas wind.

The Difference

The part that decides whether it lasts.

Granule loss is the other thing worth understanding. The granules are not decoration; they are the sunscreen for the asphalt underneath. Once they are gone in patches, the asphalt hardens, the shingle loses flexibility, and it starts to crack rather than flex. Granules in the gutter after a storm are the roof telling you where it is in its life.

Impact-resistant shingles, the Class 4 rated ones, are worth asking about in this part of Dallas specifically. They cost more up front and most Texas insurers discount the premium for them, which shortens the payback in a quadrant that takes as much hail as this one.

Let's Work Together

Find out what the roof actually needs.

Someone gets on the roof and into the attic, photographs what is there, and tells you what it needs. That costs nothing, including when the answer is nothing yet.
