Soffit and Fascia

What this job involves, and what moves the price.

The fascia is the vertical board at the roof edge that the gutter hangs on. The soffit is the horizontal underside between it and the wall. Together they close the eave, and they do two jobs that have nothing to do with each other: they keep weather and animals out, and they are where the attic takes in air.

Rot here is almost always secondary. Something else put water where it should not be (an overflowing gutter, a missing drip edge, a leak at the eave), and the trim is what shows it first. Replacing rotted fascia without finding what wet it means replacing it again.

Included Rotted fascia and soffit board replacement · The water source found before the trim is replaced · Soffit vents cleared, or added where there are none · Drip edge reset at the roof edge · Animal entry points at the eaves closed properly

How It Works

01

Call or send the form

Say what you are seeing: a stain, a storm, missing shingles, or a roof you just want an opinion on.

02

Someone gets on the roof

And into the attic, because the underside of the decking tells you things the surface will not. The inspection is free.

03

Photographs and a scope

You cannot see your own roof, so you get pictures of what was found and a written scope before any number is agreed.

04

The work, then the sweep

A tear-off scatters nails across a property. The last job of the day is running a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds.

Before You Call

Soffit and Fascia, answered.

What causes soffit and fascia rot?

Water that should have gone somewhere else: overflowing gutters, a missing or badly set drip edge, or a leak at the roof edge. The rot is a symptom, so finding the source is part of the repair.

Should soffit and fascia be replaced during a reroof?

If it is rotten, yes. The drip edge, the first shingle course and the gutter all fasten into that area, and doing it afterwards means undoing new work.

Does wrapping eaves in aluminum cause problems?

It can. Wrapping over existing soffit vents without providing new ventilation is common, and it strangles the intake half of the attic ventilation while looking like an improvement.

Something is getting into my attic at the eaves. Is that a roofing job?

The entry point usually is. Rotted or gapped soffit is the standard way squirrels and wasps get in, and closing it properly means repairing the trim rather than stapling mesh over it.

Why Homeowners Pick Us

The roof edge is where the attic breathes and where the rot starts.

Blocked soffit vents strand hot air in the attic and shorten the life of the shingles above it. Rotten fascia eventually stops holding up the gutter that caused it.

The Difference

The part that decides whether it lasts.

The ventilation side is the part that gets missed. Soffit vents are the intake half of an attic ventilation system, and on older Dallas homes they are frequently painted over, stuffed with insulation, or covered when someone wrapped the eaves in aluminum. An attic with ridge vents and blocked soffits has exhaust and no intake, which does very little.

Eaves are also the usual way squirrels and wasps get into an attic, because rotted or gapped soffit is a door that is already open.

Let's Work Together

Find out what the roof actually needs.

Someone gets on the roof and into the attic, photographs what is there, and tells you what it needs. That costs nothing, including when the answer is nothing yet.
